About the Program

The High School Electrical Power Technology Program is a Career and Technical Education program offered through Pratt Community College  to high school students interested in a career as an electrical lineman.

Completion of this program, and all required pre-requisite courses, provides students with an Electrical Powerline Technology Certificate, allowing them the potential to complete an Associates of Applied Science in Electrical Powerline Technology in one year after high school graduation.


Who is Eligible?

The program is designed for students to begin in the fall semester of their junior year of high school. Students who intend to enroll in the program MUST be 18 years of age by the time they graduate high school.


When will classes take place?

Students will participate in the program throughout both their junior and senior years of high school. A mandatory, paid internship will take place during the summer after the student's senior year.


Where are classes located?

The program, both classes and lab field, are located at the Grove Campus of WSU Tech in Wichita, Kan.


How Much?

Tuition for the EPT program related courses is paid for through Senate Bill 155, while the student is enrolled in high school, at no cost to the student. General education courses are not funded by SB155. Students are responsible for a $150 program fee each semester and the cost of their textbooks. Tools necessary to complete the program are provided for use on campus by Pratt Community College. Students are responsible for tools needed to participate in their internship.
