Baseball Beats Barton, Advances in Playoffs

07 May 2011

The Beaver baseball team scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning of an elimination game to beat Barton County Community College 6-5 in the Region VI Super Regional in Chanute, KS. Pratt dropped the opening game of the tournament 8-6 to Neosho County. The Beavers will play the loser of the Neosho/Johnson County game on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.

The Pratt ninth inning rally started with a leadoff single from Todd Reller. Reller advanced to second base on a base hit to right field from Skylar Angood. Ethan Elrod, who went 5 for 8 with five RBI in the two games, doubled to left to score Reller and Angood to tie the game at 5-5. With no outs and Elrod at second base, freshman D'Andre Wallace doubled to left to score Elrod and give the Beavers a 6-5 walk off win.

Reliever Junior Mustain (4-3) pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless and hitless relief to pick up the win. Richard Mais also pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless relief, striking out three while only giving up one hit. Blake McMullen went 4.2 innings in the start for Pratt, giving up two earned runs.

If Pratt beats the loser of the Neosho/Johnson game on Sunday, they will play the winner of that game in the Super Regional championship on Monday at 12:30 p.m. Beaver baseball can be followed on Twitter and live updates are available at
