PCC Hosts Academic Olympics and Car Show

18 February 2014

Nearly 700 high school students are expected on Pratt Community College’s campus Feb. 24 for the annual Academic Olympics.

The students, from 21 area high schools, will take part in competitions and tests to see where they rank against their peers.

There are 56 competitions to choose from, ranging from welding to algebra to agriculture. Each student is able to pick three areas in which to compete.

The event is also held in conjunction with the annual Car Show, hosted by the PCC Automotive Department. Twelve cars of all different makes and models will be on display in the automotive shop from 8 a.m. – noon. The cars are loaned for the event by community members who have ties to the department.

Students and community members are able to vote on which of the vehicles is their favorite and people’s choice awards will be given out at the end of the day.

Automotive is one of the 56 competition categories for the day, in which students will complete a written exam. Additionally, the department will also offer “walk-in” testing that morning for anyone who wants to participate for a chance to win scholarships, tools, apparel, and other prizes donated by industry partners.
