Volleyball loses to Hutchinson 3-2

02 September 2011

After a slow start and a very one-sided 25 - 10 score in favor of the home team Dragons of Hutchinson Community College, the Lady Beavers came back to win a 30 - 28 thriller in set two. Another a few missed chances to take the lead in set three, the Lady Beavers ended with a 25 - 15 loss to the Dragons.

The Lady Beavers came out firing on all cylinders in the fourth set with outstanding plays from Hannah Melichar, Bailey Rush, Kylee Pywell, Leah McPherson, Elisa Seumanu and Tayler Frederiksen to take a 25 - 14 victory, setting up a decisive fifth set. Sophomore Libero, Tori Provencio, was outstanding on defense leading a Beaver defense, that despite the score, frustrated the Dragon hitters all night. Provencio is the anchor of the Beaver defense.

The Dragons came out strong, and took an 8 - 2 lead before the Beavers started their own comeback once again. After closing to 11 - 9, the Lady Beavers missed several close shots to tie, but could not find the lines. After a brief exchange of points, a big swing from one of the Dragons hitters gave them a hard fought 15 - 11 victory and the win in five sets.

The Lady Beavers play this weekend in El Reno, Okla. at the Redlands Community College tournament, and will return to open their home season against Seward County Community College on Wed., Sept. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Dennis Lesh Sports Arena.
