Men start out basketball season 2-0 on the road

05 November 2012

The Beaver Men's Basketball team traveled to Great Bend, Kan. last weekend to take on first year program Northwest Tech out of Goodland, Kan. and Ft. Scott, Kan.

Against Northwest Tech on Friday, PCC trailed the majority of the game until the Beavers found a group consisting of Javis Flynn (18 pts), Ralph Abraham (15 pts), Kazmere Boyd (9 pts), Aaron Abram (10 pts) and Deon Taylor 10 pts)

"We were down for most of the game until those guys sparked a run with some traps and fast break finishes to put us up by 14," said Jesse Shaw, Head Men's Basketball Coach. "We were able to cruise for the most part from that point on, minus a couple lazy turnovers, and finish the game with a 83-74 victory."

Against Ft. Scott the Beavers experienced turmoil as well. Both teams traded leads during the first half, but the Ft. Scott Greyhounds headed into the locker room up 2 at half.

The Beavers ramped up their defensive efforts to start the second half though, and quickly built a 15 point lead, only to see it slowly dwindle through bad decision making on offense and worse defense.

The Greyhounds would eventually bank in a three at the buzzer to force the game to overtime.

"Once overtime began, our fellas decided they indeed wanted to win, and pulled out the necessary stops to make it happen," said Shaw. "The Ft. Scott affair was eerily similar to some games we had last year, except we decided to win."

On Saturday, Aaron Abram and Randall Rogers stepped up with 18 pts and 12 pts respectively, and DeShun Roberts gave the Beavers some great minutes in the second half. Javis Flynn was the player of the weekend though with his leadership on the court and desire to win.

The men will join the Lady Beavers on the trip to Hesston Tuesday night.
