Pratt Community College (PCC) is committed to promoting a healthful environment for all employees and students. Because exposure to bloodborne pathogens may affect such an environment, PCC is committed to maintaining compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations regarding bloodborne pathogens through the development and ongoing implementation of a Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan which is located on the PCC common drive – I: Procedures and the PCC website Human Resources page.

PCC, in compliance with the Kansas Department of Human Resources (KDHR), Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) guidelines, and the OSHA standard, is committed to the prevention of incidents or happenings which result in employee injury and illness. The college adopts this procedure to insure a safe work environment for its employees.

Individual departments having employees with occupational exposure to human blood are encouraged to establish an Exposure Control Plan that is designed to eliminate or minimize the employee or student exposure that is unique and specific for each area.

First Aid Administration
PCC employees should administer first aid only at the level for which they have been prepared through formal training/certification. Universal precautions as outlined in the College’s Bloodborne Pathogen Plan, must be followed whenever exposure to body fluids is a possibility. Maintenance should be contacted first for any bio-hazard clean-up. (If no maintenance is available employees should utilize the closest available bio-hazard clean-up kit.) Employees/students should be instructed to consult their personal health care provider for follow-up care if there is any question of possible exposure to a bloodborne pathogen. Used bio-hazard kits should be given to the college health nurse to be restocked.

In event of a serious (life-threatening) illness or injury, 911 should be called immediately to administer emergency treatment and transport to a health care facility.

An, Incident Report should be completed immediately following any accident, injury or serious illness involving a PCC student or employee that occurs on the PCC campus. This report should be filed in the office of the Vice President of Finance and Operations.

Bio-hazard (BH) kits will be supplied by the College Health Nurse and can be found in the following areas:
