Men's Basketball vs Northern Oklahoma College - Tonkawa
Your Beaver men’s basketball team faced its toughest challenge of the year to date against Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa on Saturday night. The game lived up to its billing, a back and forth affair that came down to the wire, but in the end the hometown Beavers came up short 55-57. The guys gave a good effort, and we had our chances to seal the game late, but missed the front end free throw of a 1-and-1 with a 1 point lead and about 45 seconds left, and turned the ball over on an inbounds play with a 1 point lead and about 25 seconds left that would eventually be the dagger. To Tonkawa’s credit, they’re a good team that would compete with anyone in the Jayhawk Conference, which made the game a great test for us early on, but it stings to have a game in your hands and watch it slip away. The highlights of the night were Javis Flynn breaking down the defense and creating shots for himself and others, along with his diving out of bounds for loose balls consistently. Lucas Stivrins also had a great night in the middle for the Beavers, and he actually drove down to Tulsa University yesterday to visit with Danny Manning and company to talk about his future. Overall, I was disappointed in our execution offensively and our lapses in concentration defensively, but Tonkawa is a good team, and hopefully we can learn from this loss, which drops us to 3-1, and become a better team down the road because of it.
