Performing Arts department host summer camp
Pratt Community College will be hosting a summer camp in the Performing Arts department for Kindergartners through seniors in high school. The camp will be June 11-15 and June 18-23 from 12:30 to 5:15 p.m. Monday through Friday.
During that time, students will practice “Schoolhouse Rock Live JR.,” which they will perform live June 22 and 23 at 7:30 p.m.
Along with acting, singing and dancing the campers will also have arts and crafts projects that will create the costumes and sets for the show.
“This will be a hands on, fun camp for anyone interested in theatre and/or music. Students will get opportunities to not only put a show together on stage, but be part of the creation of the sets, costumes and props as well,” Misty Beck, director, said.
All students who attend the camp will participate in the show. Characters, solos, speaking parts, etc. will be assigned as the camp progresses.
“Schoolhouse Rock Live JR” is based on the Emmy Award-winning 1970s Saturday morning cartoon series that taught history, grammar, math, science and politics through clever, tuneful songs is not only making a small-screen comeback, instructing a whole new generation to “Unpack Your Adjectives” and “Do The Circulations.”
“Schoolhouse Rock Live is a fantastic, educational show that will not only teach the students about theatre and music, but language, history, science,” Beck said.
Priority deadline for registration is May 15. There is a $20 fee per students. Discounts are available for families with three or more children. For more information, please contact Misty Beck at mistyb@prattcc.edu.
