Women win final home game 73-38
On Saturday night the Pratt Community College Beavers hosted the Colby Trojans for sophomore night.
In the midst of the sophomore, homecoming and hall of fame festivities “the team managed to play quite possibly their best basketball of the season,” said assistant coach, Taylor High.
Needing a win to move up a spot in the playoff hunt, Pratt came out firing and jumped to a 13-0 lead.
Despite a small lull offensively in the first half Pratt maintained their lead and was completely locked in defensively grabbing a 29-9 half time lead.
“Clearly this was the best half the Beavers have put together defensively this season,” High said.
The second half Pratt didn’t let off the breaks for one second. While using all 13 players who were dressed, the Beavers managed to push the lead to 40 at one point during the second half. The final was a 73-38 win for the Pratt women.
Eleven of the 13 players scored and four players found their way into double figures, including Whitney Bates with 14, Cari Guyton, Sarah Johnson, and Ann Pauly all added 11 points.
“It was the perfect way for the sophomore class to go out of their last home game in the Dome,” High said.
The sophomores recognized were: Pauly, Bates, Anna Leis, Guyton, Johnson, Kamie Rash and Catie Riedel.
“They have meant a tremendous amount to the program,” High said. “They have been great leaders, students, and kids to be around and have helped push the program forward in their two years here.”
The women will start the Region VI playoffs on March 7 at Cowley with a 6 p.m. tip off.
