Release Date:

More than 200 high school students voted on their favorite vehicle in the Pratt Community College annual car show on Feb. 27.

There were 16 vehicles ranging from muscle cars to speed boats and from 4-wheelers to sand buggies.

Al Wiese was the winner of the show with his 1968 Camaro SS. Cody Dick came in second with his 2004 Jackson Sand Dune Buggy, which was John Deere themed. In third was a 2007 Jackson Sand Dune Buggy Pre-Runner and in fourth was 1990 Scarab X-Calaber 40-foot flamed boat with Twin Super Charge 502 Chevy engines. The boat was rebuilt in 2005 and is owned by Kenny Roberts. John Mies took fifth with his 2003 Corvette Z06.

Greg Bacon, auto instructor, said in the nine years he has been with the college, this show had the most variety.

“I’m not sure how we are going to top this year,” he said.

To make the show even better next year, Bacon plans on including a tractor pull.

“This event wouldn’t be possible without the community support,” Bacon said. “All of the owners have something to do with the college.”

Bacon said he feels it is important to put this show on each year to show students that going into automotive isn’t just working on vehicles but that there are many options.

“With the variety of vehicles we have in here I would like to see students indentify with all the different avenues available, as far as careers go,” he said.

He then went on to say that options included sales, parts, detailing vehicles and servicing are all options when going into automotives.
