PCC wrestling team goes against D-1, D-2 schools
The Pratt Community College wrestling team competed in the Oklahoma City University Wrestling Open Nov. 4-6.
The beavers were the only community college participating against Division 1 and Division 2 teams. Those teams included: The University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, Oklahoma Central University, Oklahoma City University, Missouri Valley College, University of the Cumberlands, New Mexico Highlands, Wayland Baptist University and Bacone.
“There were a lot of great individual showings at the tournament against some of the toughest D-1 and D-2 programs in the country,” said Ken Kepley, head coach.
Wrestling at 125 for PCC was Jabez Zinabu and Kaleb Bonilla, both who went 0-2 for the day.
The 133 weight group had better luck with Korey Pfannensteil and Skyler McComb going 3-2 during the weekend and Zach Hoehn went 1-2.
Forrest Carroll wrestled in the 141 weight group and went 0-2.
John Lynch and Grant Stairrett wrestled 149. Both went 0-2.
In the 157 weight class, Adam Klien went 2-2, along with Keegan Smith. Nick Collins and Dennis Murphy went 0-2.
Sheldon Graves went 0-2 in the 165 weight class.
Wrestling 174, Landon Keiswetter went 3-2 and Taylor Baird did the same in the 184 weight class.
Dustin Hackett lost both of his matches in the 197 weight class.
In the heavy weight class, Tim Tuaqoui went 3-2.
"I am very proud of our guys,” Kepley said. “They went out there with nothing to lose and rose to the occasion. I believe that the most important thing in this sport is to wrestle the best and we started with that this weekend and didn't back down. We have a lot to work on but I am certainly proud of their efforts."
The PCC Wrestling Team will take on #7 ranked Colby Nov. 9 in a dual meet at the Dennis Lesh Sports Arena.
