Cheer Takes First at NCA Collegiate Summer Camp
The 2011-2012 Cheer Team is getting off to a great start. Twenty members from the team traveled to Northwest Missouri State University this summer to attend the NCA Collegiate Summer Camp.
The camp had over 400 cheer participates representing over 25 colleges in many different divisions and from all over the United States. While attending the three day camp, the team worked on improving their skills in stunts, pyramids, basket tosses and dances as well as learning new ones to showcase in the upcoming season.
The Beavers also participated in the Rally Routine competition on the last day of camp. The Rally Routine was taught throughout the duration of the camp and was designed to utilize the strengths of a team’s ability to lead the crowd while also utilizing the team’s perfected technical skills to entertain and captivate the audience at the same time. The routine was a condensed version of a half-time performance incorporating crowd involvement, stunts, tumbling, dances and pyramids. The Beavers worked all week to perfect the routine for the competition. All of their hard work paid off and the team placed first in the Junior College Division.
Their showing this summer was an improvement from last year, where they placed second in the small co-ed division. The team was also awarded a bid to attend the National Cheerleaders Association College National in Daytona Beach Florida in April, 2012.
