PCC Women Cruise Past Colby
With all five starters scoring in double figures, the PCC Women's Basketball Team had no trouble with the visiting Colby Trojans on Wednesday night, dispatching the visitors 70-56. With the win, Pratt improved to 2-7 and 12-11. Colby fell to 3-6 and 8-15.
Pratt was in control at the half with a five point, 33-28 lead. The Beavers had built a 10 point lead on 46 percent shooting and Holly Martins' 11 points, but they allowed the Trojans to work back into it.
In the second half, Pratt was having none of the comeback bid from the Trojans. Pratt opened the lead back up to 10, then maintained that or more for the remainder.
The Beavers shot 46 percent for the game compared to Colby's 28 percent. The teams were even in rebounds with 41. Pratt turned the ball over 20 times, but forced Colby into 25 errors. Pratt hit no three pointers in the first half, but round a rhythm in the second stanza, hitting four of six. Colby also managed only four of 15 threes. Pratt did not have one of their better nights at the line, going 8 for 14 for 57 percent. Colby hit 10 of 16 for 62 percent.
Pratt was lead by the inside presence of both Holly Martin and Cari Guyton, each with 15 points. Guyton also recorded a double/double with 11 rebounds. Laramie Lawrence added 11 points, and Witney Bates and Ann Pauly each donated 10. Both Bates and Martin fouled out late in the game, but it wasn't a factor.
Pratt will be off until Monday when they travel to Concordia to play Cloud at 6:00pm.
