The following day, the wrestling team had an even stronger showing at the Baker Open, where the wrestlers improved their marks against competition from the NAIA and the Division II ranks. Jose Sanchez again produced at 133 lbs. where he went 5 - 2 on the day and just one round away from placing. At 149 lbs., Nick Schwager kept the pace throughout the tournament to also put up a record of 5 - 2 with a round away from placing. At 157 lbs., Keegan Smith took the 5th place spot, and at 165 lbs., Randall Clements took 6th place. At 174 lbs., Dylon Walker set the tone for the Beavers with a 4th place finish. At 197 lbs., Skyler Smith had another good day placing fourth for the Beavers. At 184 lbs. and heavyweight, Alex Feldkamp and Xavier Fisher topped the day by placing second in two close matches in the finals against great competition. They both lost by a slim decision for the top spot of their respective weight classes.
"We are very proud of the performance of our student athletes this morning,” said head coach Josh Carroll. “It was a long and drawn out two days for them, and they battled and fought hard all weekend. It was a great weekend to get some experience under our belt and get ready for Colby on Wednesday."
The Beavers will be traveling to Colby Community College on Wednesday, November 10th, for a dual meet at 7 p.m.
