Volleyball Sweeps Hutch Again
The PCC Volleyball Team has now won twelve straight sets after sweeping Hutchinson on Monday night at the Dennis Lesh Arena. The win was the ninth in a row for the Beavers, who are 9-1 and sitting atop the Jayhawk Conference along with Dodge City. Pratt and Dodge will face off in Dodge on Wednesday night.
Pratt dug a hole for themselves early in the Hutch contest, falling behind 8-3. Struggling much as they did early against Barton, the Beavers did not tie the game until 20, then held on for a 25-23 win. The Beavers hit only .185 in the first set.
Sets two and three played out identically, with the teams knotted up in the early teens. Pratt went on a roll to build a nine point margin that held up in both sets for 25-16 wins. The loss dropped Hutch to 4-6 on the season.
In both set two and three, Pratt had 15 kills, hitting .250 in set two and .333 in set three.
Emily Scheck performed a solo setting act, as Sam Reed was out ill. Scheck delivered 36 assists for a 10.6 assist/set average. Scheck had defensive support from Bailey Rush and Tori Provencio, both of whom had 9 digs.
On the offensive end, the Beavers were led by Nohely Perez, who collected 11 kills while hitting .231. Natali JOnes was also in double figures with 10 kills, hitting .500. Hannah Melichar added another 9 kills, but hit only .100.
"This was our first match running a 5-1," said head coach Patrick Hall, "so I think we held it together pretty well playing without Sam in the other setting position. Our hitting percentages were not what we'd like, but our blocking was solid again, and our passing was pretty good. Hopefully we can get healthy and make a push down the final stretch."
Pratt will travel to Dodge City to take on the Conquistadors at 6:30 on Wednesday.
