Baseball Sweeps Brown Mackie
The Pratt Beavers swept a doubleheader with Brown Mackie College on Sunday at Stanion Field. In the first game the score was tied 3-3 after three innings.
The Beaver bats came to life scoring four runs in the fourth off of a Joe Kornbrust grand slam. Kornbrust finished the game 3-3 with five RBI.
Skyler Sumner (3-3, two runs, RBI) singled in Travis Sanders (2-3, two runs) to make the score 8-3 after five innings. Trey DeRouen slammed his third homerun of the weekend, a two-run shot, in the sixth inning. Justin Axman drew a bases loaded walk and Kannon Raiburn drove in Travis Sanders on a fielder’s choice to give the Beavers a 12-3 lead after six innings.
Edgar Melendez then pitched a scoreless seventh inning to give the Beavers a 12-3 win. Blake McMullen was the winning pitcher, going five innings while giving up three earned runs and striking out five. Bradly Ware pitched a scoreless sixth inning and struck out the side.

The second game was not decided until the bottom of the seventh. The Beavers fell behind 5-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning. Travis Sanders, who went 2-3 on the day with two RBI, led off the third with a triple to right field and scored on a wild pitch. Skyler Sumner drove in Blaine Aldrich with a sacrifice fly to center field to make the score 5-2 after three innings.
Pratt scratched across two more runs in the fourth when Sanders singled in Aaron Beil (2-4, RBI) and Matt Burns to make the score 5-4 in favor of Brown Mackie. The Lions scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning and Pratt answered with a run in the bottom half to make the score 9-5.
Joe Kornbrust pitched a scoreless seventh inning, setting up a dramatic finish for the Beavers. Trey DeRouen got the inning started when he blasted his fourth homerun of the weekend to right field. Jacob Hollis followed with an infield hit and advanced to third on a Skyler Sumner double. Joe Kornbrust drew a walk and Zach Sell reached on an error and Hollis and Sumner crossed the plate making the score 9-8.
After Ethan Elrod flew out to center, Aaron Beil doubled down the left field line scoring Kornbrust to tie the game. Matt Burns was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Sean McElgunn pinch hit for Cody Passmore and delivered a single over the right fielder’s head to score Sell and give the Beavers a 10-9 comeback victory.

The Beavers improved their record to 8-11. They will host Hesston College on Wednesday in a nine-inning game, first pitch at 4:00pm at Stanion Field.
